While amalgam has been confirmed to be safe, it does put stress on your tooth which can lead to fractures in the future. At Sure Dental, we do not place amalgam restorations due to their functional and cosmetic compromises. Our advanced resin systems are now used to avoid the need for metal restorations.
Unlike restorations (fillings) which are created using a resin that hardens when applied with a light, inlays and onlays are usually constructed with porcelain using a mould of your teeth (though sometimes they are made out of resin). The porcelain or resin inlays and onlays are carefully fabricated by our specialist ceramist following our detailed instructions. This process ensures the best possible result when restoring your tooth to its full function.
They are custom-made and cemented in place, offering a long-lasting result with minimal risk of breakage or recurrent decay. This type of restoration can strengthen your tooth structure and is commonly used on heavily broken down teeth.
An inlay restores significant mass in the centre (crevice) of your teeth. An onlay can restore this part of your teeth as well as a cusp (or peak) of your tooth. If you have extensive decay in the centre of your tooth then an inlay may be recommended, whereas a chipped and/or damaged cusp may require an onlay. We will always provide you with treatment options best suited to you.
